About Emily

I am currently in Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Mental Health Program while teaching full time as a 3-year-old teacher in an all-boys religious school, babysitting and tutoring English studies on the side. I have been a teacher for over 10 years in the preschool environment with the goal of becoming a child therapist. Additionally, I have worked as a camp counselor in Ramapo for Children, which specializes in Foster Care and Autism, and as a dorm parent at Deveraux Behavioral Health, a boarding school for children with special needs, and in the foster care system.

On the side, I enjoy reading, shopping, hiking, skiing, traversing the outdoors, and being active. I find peace in both standard and watercoloring.  I graduated from Drexel University’s Honors Program with a bachelor's in Behavioral Health Counseling and Psychology, also being part of the psychology Psy Chai Honors society. As an undergraduate student, I did two independent studies on childhood trauma. I also graduated from Columbia University with a masters in Developmental Psychology, where my
thesis discussed the positive effects of equine therapy for children recovering from trauma.

Theory and Philosophy

As someone who has overcome many hardships, I strive to help others find inner happiness and strength through empathy, understanding, and a constant view of the positive.

My deepest passions lie in helping others strive to be the best versions of themselves they can be and guiding them through their hardest challenges. My work as a preschool teacher and with children who
have experienced traumas has provided me with the ability to understand young children on a
deep level. Further, I connect with them best by playing with and allowing each child to maintain their autonomy while challenging them in a safe way.

Therapy is a group process, requiring a
mutual connection, respect, and care from the therapist that is demonstrated to parents and other
caregivers in addition to children.

Modalities

I am extremely interested in Play, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I strongly believe that everything in our lives helps us to become the confident people we are. In
school, I continue to study other forms of therapy, and look forward to incorporating a person-
centered approach into sessions with all my clients to help them meet their goals.
