Meet Tammy Dukette: My Journey to Becoming a Mental Health Counselor

Hi, I’m Tammy Dukette, a Pre-Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Administrative Support Specialist at

Creative Counseling Solutions. My journey into the field of mental health counseling has been shaped by both professional experiences and personal growth, and I’m excited to share how I’ve arrived at this meaningful chapter in my life.

A Passion for Helping Others

For over a decade, I’ve worked in social services, dedicating my career to supporting vulnerable populations and managing programs that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. My time in this field has given me a profound understanding of the challenges people face and the resilience they demonstrate, particularly when they feel heard and supported.

Building on this experience, I pursued a Master’s degree in Gerontology, where I developed a deep appreciation for the aging process and the complexities it brings to individuals and families. These experiences planted the seed for my passion to help people navigate their unique challenges with compassion and care.

The Transition to Counseling

While I loved my work in social services, I realized that I wanted to connect with individuals on a deeper, more personal level. This realization led me to begin a Master’s program in

at Manhattan University. As I work toward licensure, I am gaining valuable hands-on experience providing person-centered therapy and supporting clients in meaningful ways.

At Creative Counseling Solutions, I’m honored to work alongside a talented team of professionals who share my commitment to empowering individuals and families. In addition to providing therapy sessions, I assist with administrative tasks that keep the practice running smoothly, such as billing, client intake, and consultation coordination.

Why I’m Passionate About Mental Health

Mental health counseling is more than a profession for me—it’s a calling. I believe in the transformative power of therapy and the importance of creating a safe, supportive space where clients can process their emotions, explore solutions, and build resilience.

As a Black woman and a lifelong learner, I’m deeply aware of the systemic and personal challenges many people face. This perspective allows me to bring empathy, cultural sensitivity, and understanding to every session. Whether I’m helping a client navigate life transitions, process grief, or work through anxiety, my goal is always to empower them to find peace and purpose in their lives.

A Bit About Me

When I’m not working or studying, I’m an avid traveler who finds inspiration and renewal through exploring new places and cultures. Travel has taught me the importance of flexibility, self-care, and embracing the unexpected—lessons I bring into my work with clients every day.

I also have a strong interest in helping families of older adults navigate the aging experience, from connecting to resources like Medicare and hospice care to addressing the emotional challenges of caregiving. This aligns with my background in gerontology and my passion for supporting individuals through life’s transitions.

How I Can Help You

At Creative Counseling Solutions, I provide therapy sessions rooted in a person-centered approach, meeting clients where they are and working collaboratively to develop goals and strategies tailored to their unique needs. Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, depression, or life changes, I’m here to listen, guide, and empower you.

If you’re ready to take the next step on your journey, I’d love to connect. Together, we can work toward creating a life filled with growth, healing, and hope.

Let’s get started.
